Welcome to our new art and antiques pages! After more than thirty years of collecting works in the field of Central Asian art, the time has come to open our collections to broader public view and to place many pieces seen previously only at lectures and museum exhibitions on the market. Watch these pages for additional materials as we begin the "deaccession" process! Please note that some researches are ongoing. For example, our new book on the Lakai and Kungrat, "Uzbek Embroidery in the Steppe Tradition", has just been published by the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

While we are always interested in working with clients in building collections and in talking about future purchases, this website will serve as the primary venue for materials from our collections. On request, we will provide a written identification and guarantee for anything that is sold, as well as a letter testifying to the origin of the object and length of time it has been in the United States.

Our antiquities, for example, were purchased in Afghanistan during the time when we were residents there in the early 1970s. When we left Afghanistan after the Soviet invasion, we were able to export them through the kind assistance of a Kabul Museum archaeologist, who felt – correctly, as it turned out – that our Bronze Age materials would be safer in the U.S. than in Afghanistan. Subsequently, the vast majority of these Bronze Age objects were used to illustrate scholarly works published in the Soviet Union, Russia, Turkmenistan, and the United States, most extensively by Russian archaeologist Victor Sarianidi in "Myths of Ancient Bactria and Margiana on Its Seals and Amulets". Our Islamic materials have been accessed by numerous scholars and served as resources for many public lectures since 1973. This information may be important for future owners.

We invite you to click on any of the links below for a closer view of these important works.
